24 Swan Street Today
Ground Floor is thriving
For over 29 years the ground floor has been home to JLD School of Dance, a thriving dance school in the heart of the village. In 2017 it became the birthplace of Kingsclere Performing Arts College, a centre for pre-professional training.
Baughurst Blades and Eira’s Equestrian Extras occupies one of the outbuildings providing a great service to the Equestrian and Gardening Community.
First Floor has unmet potential
With no clear vision for the future of 24 Swan Street, other than the long term plans to sell it for profit, Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council have been unable to maximise the potential of this beautiful historic building within the community of Kingsclere.
Office suites have proved unsuitable lets in the last decade and gradually all tenants from the first floor have moved on. Despite enquiries from interested parties, these suites have not been re-let and the building has not fulfilled its potential for many years.
Externally
The outbuildings and garages serve a purpose: the gallery is currently unlet and the garages are used for storage by community organisations.
The car park at 24 Swan Street provides valuable parking for many residents on Swan Street whose period properties lack the necessary parking for modern households. Local businesses also benefit from use of the car park; many employees working in Swan Street would find difficulty parking for work without it, and the patrons of the businesses often have no option but to use the car park as there is a great need for improved parking in the village centre.
